Rock County School Board approves COVID Protocol Amendments
By: Superintendent Mark Otten
Rock County School Board of Education met Monday night and discussed possible changes to the COVID protocols based on the rise in cases in the community. With input from local providers, the school board, and administration, the school board decided one change was needed in order to support our local clinics and the hospital.
Students who have household members test positive for COVID will now have two options. The first option is to continue to come to school in-person and wear a mask for ten days. This would allow them to fully participate in class while providing protections for the other students and the staff who are working with those students. Option two is to quarantine at home for ten days. These students would have the option of remote learning while quarantining at home. If they choose to participate in the remote learning option, they would not be counted absent from school during this time.
Whenever COVID protocols start being discussed, there are two sides to the discussion. Typically, there is one side that thinks the school district is not doing enough to keep our students and staff safe and the other side believes we are doing too much and it is useless. As a school district, we have to consider both sides of the argument and try to find the right balance of what is reasonable and what would be considered over the top. In this case, we feel it is reasonable to expect students who are known close contacts to either mask or stay home for ten days. Thank you for your understanding during these unprecedented times.

JH Girls Basketball Game Today at Keya Paha starting at 5PM.
They will play 4 quarters of A-Team and then 2 quarters of B-Team. I would suggest all parents being there by 5PM.
