With the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year right around the corner, it may be time for families to think about back to school supplies and costs incurred while their children are attending school.  That cost will be increased for most families this year due to the end of the Summer Food Service Program from the federal government.

For the past two years, the federal government provided free meals to all students attending public schools.  This was one of the provisions in place due to COVID and the hardships that families were seeing with lack of employment.  This program runs out June 30, 2022 which means families will need to apply for free/reduced lunches again and if they do not qualify, they will be paying full price.

With that being said, it is advantageous to the school district when families apply.  The more families who apply, the more financial assistance the school district gets from the federal government.  When families qualify for free or reduced meals, the reimbursement comes from state and federal sources which will be spent somewhere else if we do not receive them.

The people of Rock County pay their fair share in state and federal taxes and it is ok to get some of that back in the form of meals for our students.  Please take the time to get an application from the business office in the high school and fill it out.  If you would like assistance in filling it out, please stop in during normal office hours or give us a call.
