100 Mile Challenge

RC Superintendent Tidbits

We are doing our best to keep warm and comfortable through the dog days of winter but this last week has been a challenge.  With air temperature readings of 27 degrees below zero and wind chills as low as 40 degrees below zero, it has been difficult to continue with business as usual.  Some of the adjustments we have made include a late start to allow people a little more time to get things warmed up and to be able to travel in daylight in case they do encounter some issues, sending kids in gasoline powered vehicles instead of diesel powered buses, and cancelling or postponing some events.  Hopefully we will be past the worst of the low temperatures and we can start thinking about spring activities and being outdoors.

Speaking of spring activities and being outdoors, Mrs. Cosgrove has been spending quite a bit of time outdoors with our grade school students for running club.  She hosts running club after school a couple days per week and kids have a great time putting in some miles.  They do have opportunities to earn incentives for the miles they run on a given day or for the school year.  T-shirts will be earned by some runners which are paid for out of a grant from Rock County Community Fund.  To date, 2,066.08 miles have been run by 71 students.  The number one student on the list has logged 91.75 miles this year which is close to the goal of 100 miles for each student.  If you drive by the grade school between 3:30-4:00 and see a bunch of our students running laps, give them a honk for support.
