The Christmas Spirit
The Christmas Spirit

With Christmas coming up we’re all looking for that bit of Christmas spirit. This year the student council gave us just that with locker and door decorations along with a food drive. The food drive itself was a huge success with over 15 hundred items coming from the students and teachers. That’s a number to be proud of. However most of the focus has been on the locker decorations. “The student council decided that the locker decorating would be a good idea because of getting into the Christmas spirit. I personally as President enjoy Christmas time because of the family ties. Ever since I was little Christmas has been a big deal for my family. It is a time for us to gather and be together and enjoy time with one another,” Marcus Reynolds, student council president, says. Walking down the hall you can see colorfully decorated lockers lining the wall. However two stood out to me. (Pictures above). These lockers are owned by Suzi Smiley, left, and Isley Fisher, right. I interviewed the two to see what their inspiration was and found that neither of them are short on Christmas spirit. Suzi talked of her time with her grandma decorating the house over the years and how she wanted to bring a bit of that Christmas spirit to the school. “I love sharing Christmas, so I’m like, hey, look at this Christmas take it.” Suzi said with a smile. When I asked Isley  about her inspiration she said the idea was inspired by the Christmas Story, “I just wanted to make it colorful,” she says. She did just that. These girls and every other student who decorated their locker are competing for the best locker with the prize of candy as a reward, however I feel as if the majority did it just for the Christmas spirit.
